INKTOBER 2020 – BILLY FROM “THE GRIM ADVENTURES OF BILLY AND MANDY”
I want to continue with my drawings of “The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy”. Why? Because I love having sets of nine cards to sell at my shows. The more art I have for sale, the better chances I have to actual sell a card or two. Unfortunately, I only sell two or three cards at every show. At $10 – $15 a pop (value varies per show size), selling two or three only pays off my gas to get to the show. The life of an artist in Artist Alley is rough!
So, why am I drawing obscure characters? Why not only draw characters that will sell? Easy! Everyone else in Artist Alley sells the same popular characters. I offer obscurity and those are usually the two or three cards I sell. I back it up with the same old stuff everyone else has to offer and the merchandise just sits.
So, who is Billy? Billy is Mandy and Grim’s friend. He is a dim-witted, happy-go-lucky boy living in Endsville. He has an extremely low IQ of -5, having been outperformed by even inanimate objects. Good-natured and incredibly dopey, Billy’s curiosity tends to get him into trouble he can’t get out of by himself. His dim-witted nature is his charm… and the reason for a lot of the misadventures the team finds themselves caught up in.
I really loved this show. As animation budgets from the networks plummeted in the last decade, high quality shows such as “The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy” have all but vanished. Hopefully a studio will be interested in turning the industry around with a high quality, original animated series soon…. with a new show like “The Big ANT-ventures of Charmy’s Army”.
