WHAT HAPPENS NEXT IN TODAY’S COMIC STRIP?
The lady stares back at the medal hanging around Charmy’s neck and asks, “What does it say”?
You know”, says Charmy as he scratched his head, “I have no idea”.
Charmy flips the medal around so he can read the words aloud, “First Place – Smelliest Teeth… Wait, what?!?”
Up walks Frenchy who interjects, “He won by a ‘smile’… No once was even close.”
Up walks Weaver who adds to the interjection, “Who would want to get too close? Plus he was standing upwind”.
My teeth done NOT stink!” yells Charmy.
Charmy turns to explain to the young lady, but she is gone.
“Where did the cute lady go?”, asks Charmy.
“Up wind”, remarks Weaver with a huge grin.
End scene.
WINNING A MEDAL
One does not need to win awards to acknowledge hard work. I have been producing Charmy’s Army for 14 years and I have yet to win an award… or even be nominated for one. I get my “rewards” at my show appearances when my readers show up and tell me how much my comic strip has meant to their lives. I know how good my stories and my characters are. I do not need a special honor to single out my hard work.
Last week, I mentioned how being on the Basketball team in High School helped me get over my shy nature. I was a bench player who would come in for 5 minutes and keep the energy up. I was not a star player, but I knew how good and important my work was. I did not need any awards then either. Lately, it feels like society is constantly screaming, “Acknowledge me!”. Crazy. I grew up knowing that I am working for a “good day’s work” and nothing more. I leave my day job every evening knowing I put in 100% for my company… and I am so very happy.
Same with my art. I do not receive a lot of comments or social shares. I do know that I am reaching a ton of readers. My stats point that out… and my show appearances reconfirm that with live interactions.I have never worked harder, never received less accolades… yet I am happier than I have ever been.
Work hard and make yourself happy. Ignore all else and you will see success greater than you’ve ever known!
