Davy's Cartooning Dream is Over!

Yes, that is correct. After years of dreaming about becoming a REAL cartoonist, I have decided to take a deep breathe, look back at my long running dream, and make a hard call….

I AM DROPPING MY CHILDHOOD DREAM

For decades, I have worked so hard on my cartoons. I keep telling everyone about my dream. What is a dream anyways? Dreams are fantasies in the imagination of people waiting for something bigger to materialize. Looking at that statement, DREAMS are not a reflection on reality. Dreaming does not make money. Dreaming does not build your dream career. Dreaming does not get the job done.

If I had a deadline at the day job and I told my boss that I am dreaming I will have that project completed next week, I would get into a ton of trouble. My goal would be to get the protect done… I do not just sit back and dream the project meets it’s target deadline. Actions are taken seriously and goals are set to make the project pan out in a reasonable amount of time.

I AM NO LONGER DREAMING ABOUT BECOMING A PROFESSIONAL CARTOONIST

That is right, I am no longer going to dream about becoming a professional cartoonist. Dreaming is not making a commitment. Dreaming is not taken the tasks at hand seriously. Dreaming is not reflecting my true passion for the art of cartooning. Dreaming is not getting my comic strip into a syndicate for national distribution. Dreaming is not getting the attention of professional cartoonists in the industry who could help me move a step ahead. Dreaming is not getting me into the National Cartoonists Society. Dreaming is just sitting around hoping a miracle happens.

I AM NOW WORKING ON BECOMING A PROFESSIONAL CARTOONIST!

You all heard me. No more of this sissy dreaming stuff. Hard work means nothing if the effort is not targeted for real results. I could just continue making appearances at comic cons and cranking out commissions, but I will get nowhere. I need to get real projects. I need to get invited to be a guest artist on a comic strip or webcomic. I want to draw a comic book for Spongebob or Underdog. I want to draw a cover for someone’s comic book. I am going to make ALL of that happen in the next two years.

I am also going to get into the National Cartoonist Society. I am going to find a mentor or two in the comic strip industry to give me advise on Charmy’s Army. I am going to release a few digital comic books…. And I WILL get syndicated. Most importantly….

I AM GOING TO STOP DREAMING!
